Coupons… Buy 5 get 1 Free

"Control the Present, Predict the Future..."

Hello Everyone…

Coupons… Buy 5 get 1 Free

I am writing this on a Friday afternoon.  To be more specific ‘Free Beer Friday’.  Which is an afternoon of Pizza and Beer while we are working.  We got our pizza from a new place this week since we were getting several and the new place down the road had a coupon offer.  The pizza was pretty good but now I’m in beer mode.  So to celebrate let’s see how you can use our Coupon feature to sell a bucket of 6 Beers at Buy 5 get 1 Free!

Now, I could set this up as buy 5 Corona’s get 1 free.  But let’s get a bit more creative and more importantly - profitable!  Let’s allow the customer to select any 6 bottles of beer and get one of those 6 for free.

For better service we want to give each in the group sharing the bucket, the beer they prefer.  For the higher net profit, we want to give them the cheapest of the 6 beers as the free one.

First we need to enable the ‘Coupon’ button.  Go To Options (press F2 for shortcut), select ‘Sales Options’ – ‘Sales By Terminal’ and turn on (check) the ‘Show Coupon Button’.

Next let’s setup a ‘Bucket of Beer’ Coupon.  Again in Options go to ‘Reference Tables’ – ‘Coupon’ and click ‘Add’.

Ok notice below I added a new Coupon Code of ‘BucketBeer’ with a Description of ‘Bucket Of Beer’.   Set the Coupon Type to ‘Buy(x) – Get (x) Free’.  Then set the Buy (X) and Get (X) fields (5 and 1 respectively for pay for 5 and get the 6th free).  Select the Store Codes if needed and set the Sale Category to ‘Beer’ in my case.  You have the option to do this by specific product as well.  Don’t forget to click the SAVE button.

Now the fun part… lets get some beer!  Lets assume that there are 3 customers sharing a bucket of beer – 2 beers each.  One prefers Bud Lite ($2.00 each), one Corona ($4.28 each), and the third Ashi ($5.00 each).

Currently we are going to sell all 6 beers for $22.56.  Now let’s apply the coupon.  Click on the ‘Coupon’ button at the bottom.

Select the ‘Bucket of Beer’ coupon.

Notice below the software found and comp’ed the lowest priced beer so the total has only been reduced by $2.00:

You can use this feature for anything – Merchandise, Green Fees, F&B, etc.  You are only limited by your imagination.  Allow the buyer to mix and match different priced items and the software is clever enough to comp the lowest price ticket.  Everyone wins!

Until Next Time…

Enjoy J
