2010 – Golf Datatech…

"Control the Present, Predict the Future

Hello Everyone…

2010 – Golf Datatech

Are you competing with Dick’s for Balls?  For those that are unfamiliar, Dick’s is a major/mega sporting goods chain store based out of Pittsburgh.  They have an impressive in-store golf pro-shop.  Prices are typically unbeatable due to the volume of their sales.  For example, how much do you charge for a box of Pro-V1?  The current promotion at Dick’s is $45 and includes Personalized Printing on the ball.  Click that link or see www.DicksSportingGoods.com.

How can you compete with Dick’s on pricing for Balls?  Simple, you can’t!  However, you can sell on other attributes.  Convenience is the most obvious.  If I am at your shop, 20 minutes prior to my tee time and I need golf balls, I’m not going to drive to Dick’s for balls.  By the way – anything you sell with your logo on it, you don’t have to compete with anyone else since you own the logo.

Now, the next questions for the merchant – What should be the price for the Pro V1 in the shop?  If you gouge the golfer, you may get them to pay the price once, but be sure they will be shopping for balls at Dick’s so it doesn’t happen again.  Maybe they will forego the Pro V1 and opt for a less expensive ball.  Given the profit margin, that could work to your benefit.  Which begs the question – Should I even carry the Pro V1 ball at all?  Is there a competitive ball with a better margin that is selling well in the market place?  Would I be better off with an alternative that generates more profit yet provides the same quality product?

These questions apply to every product you carry (logo items aside, to a point).  How do you figure out the answers?  The same way every major retailer does – through Market Research.  The problem is that market research can be very expensive, but we can get it for you through our partners at Golf Datatech.  Best of all, it costs nothing.  In fact, Golf Datatech WILL PAY YOU!  And the size of your shop does not matter.  In fact the more diverse the sampling, the more accurate the results so don’t think your shop would not be a good fit.

Why would they do that?  Because retailers are not the only ones that need market research.   The manufacturers need it too and they purchase the national results.  Where does the data for the research come from?  From merchants like you!  Golf Datatech will collect and collate the data and share the reports with you for participating.

Confidentiality is the key to making the system work.

Because all raw data files are transmitted to Golf Datatech via e-mail and all data is melded into the same network pool, no single outlet data is ever compromised. Golf Datatech and each shop owner enter into a confidentiality agreement whereby the shop owner is guaranteed protection by Golf Datatech and Golf Datatech is assured its reports will remain confidential by the shop owner/proprietor.  All customers who purchase the reports also sign a confidentiality agreement.

Here is how it works.  Call Dawn Shannon in our Administrative Office (800-793-1872) or email her Dawn@ClubProphetSystems.com and tell her to get you a Golf Datatech package.  Dawn will get you signed up with Golf Datatech.  Each month, the sales data from your shop will be sent to Golf Datatech to be combined with all the other market data.  When Golf Datatech receives your first feed of data, they will pay you $100.  Every month after that, you will receive $10 for each transmission of data.  The interface is built into your Club Prophet Systems POS so it is very easy to do.

While participating in the program, you will get detailed reports on Market Research for both hard-goods and apparel.  You will be able to see what’s hot (and what’s not), along with the average price nationally and regionally.
