Babe Ruth on Skates? If you're not watching the NHL Stanly cup series you're missing some of the best hockey played since The Miracle on Ice - Olympic Finals U.S. vs. Russia, Lake Placid, NY, 2-22-80.
Game 4 in Detroit, during the break between the 2nd and 3rd overtime, Pittsburgh Penguin Petr Sykora called his shot when he told his teammates "Guys, I'm just going to get one, so just don't worry about the game. I'm going to get a goal." He repeated the statement to the NBC announcer next to the bench when he skated out on the ice for his shift. And down 3 games to 1, he did just that, keeping Pittsburgh alive in what easily could have been the clinching game for the Stanly Cup to the Detroit Red Wings.
The Stanly Cup itself had been polished and was in the hallway on the way to the Red Wings' locker room. Inside the Detroit locker room, the champagne was on ice and the championship tee shirts were already unpacked. I tip my hat to Detroit who clearly has a better and more experienced team, but this young Pittsburgh team has shown that having more heart can make the difference.
Disney has a concept called On-Stage vs. Off-Stage. On-Stage is anywhere in the park where you can be observed by a customer. Off-Stage (if you have ever been to a Disney park you have never seen Off-Stage unless you work there) is typically underground or behind closed doors. Even the guy sweeping the streets and cleaning up behind the horses in the parade is "On-Stage" and expected to act the part.
It's all about Passion (or having heart). Where is yours? When I walk into your golf shop, do I see a guy who loves what he is doing, proud of his facility and glad to see and help his customers? Or do I see a guy who hates his job, is pissed off at the world and is annoyed when a customer asks for help or advice? If your heart is not into your job (at least when you are "On-Stage") your customers will pick up on this immediately; and if it is an ongoing attitude, your customers will quickly find another place to spend their time. After all, you are in the entertainment business - you need to act the part. Of course this extends to your staff as well.
Many of you are using StarterHut - simply the most advanced tee sheet on the market. Today I will show you how you can turn StarterHut on its side and set up an electronic Lesson Book for your Teaching Pros. After all, the lesson tee is truly where you the golf professionals are ‘On Stage' doing your thing.
From StarterHut, click on the Setup button on the top of the screen.
This will take you to the screen below. Click on Template in the top left of the screen and then Add to add a new Template.
In the Template Options, select Lesson Book and give it a name "Lesson Book". For Players in Group, enter the number of teaching pros you have (max of 6 per template - so if you have more than 6, you will need multiple Lesson Book templates). Using First and Last Tee Times, enter the first and last time you want to start a lesson. Enter 30 Min for the Tee Time Interval. Enter your Teachers' Names in the Player Name fields. Click on the Save button (you may have to scroll down to see it).
Now click on the Admin button on the top of the page and then select Course Information. Verify that you have a course called "Lesson Book". If you do not, then click on the Add button and add one called "Lesson Book" and click Save.
Now click the TeeSheet button in the top left. Click on Course Selection in the bottom left and the select "Lesson Book" from the "At a glance options..." pop-up window that appears. Click OK.
Click somewhere in the Lesson Book column then double-click on Lesson Book.
Once the setup is complete, your screen will look like the one below. Notice the teachers' names are listed across the top of the tee sheet columns as circled below.
To book a lesson with Rick from 9am to 10am, select the 9am cell under the Rick column and drag your mouse (or finger if you are using a touch screen) down to include the 9:30am block as well and then click on Book Lesson:
This will pop up the Book Lesson screen that works the same as the Book Tee Time screen. Select the person who is taking the lesson:
Notice the difference in your Day at a Glance and detail sections of the Lesson Book as circled below:
Now all the pros' lesson planners are available to everyone in the facility. Pros can block off time when they are not available. You no longer have to tell a customer that "Joe is out on the lesson tee. He will have to call you back and let you know when he can schedule you in." Much better customer service and a consistently organized team up "On Stage".
Advanced Tip: Substitute "Facility" for "Lesson Book" and Room Names for Golf Pro Names and you can schedule the Men's Card Room, The Tikki Bar, the Eisenhower Room, etc.
Enjoy :)
